What is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of hammock-like muscles that are in the pelvis and are involved with peeing, pooping, and having sex-for everyone. The key is that there are several pelvic muscles and they have to coordinate together to support normal function. Sometimes things go awry. The pelvic floor could be too tense/tight, or lack good coordination during movement, or be weak-any or all of these could cause pelvic floor symptoms and can be helped by physical therapy. If the muscles of the pelvic floor aren't coordinating with the muscles outside your pelvis—core, hips, etc—it can result in hip or low back pain.

While these issues are common, they are not “just something you have to live with.”

Pelvic floor physical therapy can re-train all the muscles to work in harmony together.

I’d been having trouble with UTIs and back pain for such a long time, and literally tried everything—urologists, gynecologists, doctors. I had doubts that my issue could be solved with PT because it almost always felt like it was something happening inside my body. Yet when I went to a number of doctors and none could pinpoint my issue, I finally gave in to the idea of trying physical therapy and I have no regrets!

I would definitely recommend Kristin as a physical therapist. She is that rare blend of someone who really knows what they are doing and really cares about making a difference in her patient’s health and wellness.

I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve from a running injury and required specialized pelvic floor therapy. The results have been wonderful. Within three months, my symptoms reduced to a fraction of what they were, and I am able to begin ultra running again. After multiple doctors, physical therapists, and massage therapists I had begun to lose hope that non-surgical treatment could work. Kristin’s deep expertise and treatments helped to steer my overall care in the right direction and made one of the biggest contributions to my recovery.
